Both Doug and Dave are gone now, and I wanted to share something Doug wrote back in 1964 for the Seagull (collected writings of Sunset Students).   He was always a great guy and you can tell he thought about life a lot too.   Gary Cotterill

THESE HILLS OF MINE —Douglas Cortez

My hills of green and brown and white are seen By me and all of those who pass them by.

On my hills I lie each night and day to dream Of birds that view these hills of mine on high. My hills, a place to go when time is left To wonder why their beauty is so rare.

When time has passed and gone, I pause with

memory kept;

But still I wonder why the hills are there. The hills are yours and mine, of course; that's why

With heart and soul I sense the hills nearby.

Some think my hills are dull, but I just sigh. They're great and wonderful when you find out why. These hills of mine are joy and pride to me. And now you know why. My hills and I are free.
